Amsterdam Art Week
Actueel: 17 juni t/m 27 juni 2021
Open everyday from 12-19 hours
In the gallery we are showing two special works by artist duo PolakVanBekkum: Graas Choreographies and Walking The Machine. The work of Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum focuses on movement and landscape, or to put it more abstractly, on mobility and what it brings about.
Graas Choreographies is a narrative consisting of 48 drawings and diary entries. The drawings are heavily influenced by twenty years of working with GPS and the development of robotic technology. They are grazing patterns of cows (in the Swiss mountains and in the Groningen flatlands) drawn after nature en plein air, - sitting down next to the meadow, looking intently and moving the pencil across the paper like an automatic drawing arm.
BOOK PRESENTATION A bilingual (NL-ENG) book will appear of the drawings and texts. The book presentation takes place on June 17 between 12:00 and 19:00 in the gallery.
Graas Choreographies is published by Muller Publishers is designed by Karen Polder and is made possible by the Mondriaan Fund, Jaap Harten Fund, Stokroos Foundation and art initiative Somalgors74.
Walking The Machine is a diptych consisting of a snow walk in the open world video game Horizon Zero Dawn on one side and a flight over a three-dimensional mountain landscape from satellite photos on the other. In both windows, the mountain landscape is explored. Both worlds are virtual but molded into what we as humans recognize as reality.
Walking The Machine will be shown in the Netherlands for the first time.
Walking The Machine: diptych video 25 min, gameplay footage from the video game Horizon Zero Dawn and from Google Earth. The project was co-sponsored by the minus20degree festival for art & architecture in Flachau, Austria.
ARTIST TALK by Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum takes place on June 24 between 16.00 and 17.30 in the gallery.
